MatchBox Consulting Group is working with an established and highly respected public utility and is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join their Transmission Lines Design team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to major provincial infrastructure initiatives and support the delivery of reliable, sustainable power systems across British Columbia.
In this position, you will play a key role in designing foundations for high-voltage transmission line structures and telecommunications infrastructure. You will collaborate within a multidisciplinary engineering environment while leading complex design work packages and mentoring junior engineers. Responsibilities
- Lead the civil engineering design of foundations for overhead transmission line structures (69 kV to 500 kV) and telecommunications antenna structures.
- Analyze and resolve complex engineering problems related to structural and foundation design.
- Manage engineering design work packages within multi-disciplinary project teams, including planning, resourcing, and coordination.
- Prepare engineering design deliverables including calculations, analysis models, reports, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Act as Professional of Record (POR) for assigned transmission projects.
- Provide technical input for cost estimates, procurement documentation, and RFP packages for foundation supply and installation.
- Ensure designs meet internal engineering standards, safety-by-design practices, and constructability requirements.
- Participate in site meetings, field reviews, and construction-phase engineering support.
- Review work completed by internal teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure compliance with engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
- Support project delivery through collaboration with internal stakeholders and external engineering partners.
- Provide technical leadership in transmission line structural design and mentor junior engineers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Registered or eligible for immediate registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia.
- 8+ years of relevant civil engineering experience related to overhead transmission lines or electrical utility infrastructure.
- Strong technical expertise in structural design of steel, concrete, and timber.
- Working knowledge of geotechnical principles related to foundation design.
- Experience designing transmission line foundation systems such as grillage foundations, rock foundations, direct embedment, caissons, guy anchors, or helical piles.
- Familiarity with Canadian engineering standards including CSA S16, CSA A23.3, CSA O86, and the Canadian Foundation Engineering Manual.
- Experience with structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000) is considered an asset.
- Strong problem-solving, technical communication, and project coordination skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
- Willingness to travel to remote project sites as required
