MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Project Manager for one of our clients, one of Canada’s most iconic general contractors.

As a national general contractor, our client has built in all ten provinces and three territories, with a portfolio that includes hospitals, community centres, schools, university buildings, police stations, casinos,  and high-rise commercial and residential mixed-use, as well design/build and P3 projects.

Responsibilities 

  • Manage the project subcontract department overseeing the execution of field subcontracts to ensure the work is within the scope and commercial requirements including the safe execution of work, ensuring quality goals are met while completing the work in a timely manner
  • Manage the project subcontract department personnel with supervision, instruction / training, work product auditing, and problem resolution
  • Direct the sourcing efforts, working with the sourcing team, and make recommendations for award of the project subcontracts to the project leadership along with the recommended support for the subcontract execution
  • Ensure proper reporting, documentation and related files are timely and correct
  • Negotiate change orders for alignment with the commercial terms of the subcontract agreements.
  • Coordinate the subcontractors’ work with the direct labor construction team to achieve the best results for the project
  • Establish and define the project’s subcontract organization, the project staffing requirements, and coordinate staffing with the project management team
  • Conduct regular project inspections and advise project supervision of work progress, quality of work and safety conditions requiring attention
  • Establish and maintain effective client relations to achieve active cooperation, team alignment, and stimulate the desire to award follow-on work
  • Coordinate with engineers, inspectors and client/owner representatives to isolate project problems and assist in developing solutions
  • Regularly conduct safety meetings and provide assistance to supervision in addressing areas and conditions requiring attention

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of progressive construction management experience, preferably in institutional/commercial buildings.
  • Experience in a general contracting environment is highly desired.
  • Post-secondary education in construction/engineering/architecture
  • Leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong project management skills developed in a construction environment
  • Experience as a project manager on institutional and commercial projects, preferably in Canada.
  • Strong software skills, including MS Project
