Matchbox Consulting Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced ICI Superintendent to lead and manage the on-site execution of industrial, commercial, and institutional construction projects across British Columbia. The Superintendent will oversee all field operations, ensuring that projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with the company’s quality standards. This role requires strong leadership skills, in-depth construction knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders, including trades, subcontractors, clients, and consultants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all on-site activities for ICI construction projects, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project plans and specifications.
  • Oversee daily site operations, including the coordination of subcontractors, trades, suppliers, and site staff to ensure smooth workflow and adherence to project timelines.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality control, and compliance with building codes, health and safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Work closely with the project management team to develop and update project schedules, ensuring key milestones and deadlines are met.
  • Lead weekly site meetings with trades, subcontractors, and the project management team to review progress, address any challenges, and plan upcoming work.
  • Enforce site safety programs, conducting regular toolbox talks, safety inspections, and ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC and company safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily site reports, logs, safety inspections, material deliveries, and equipment use.
  • Monitor site logistics, including material deliveries, equipment coordination, and waste management to minimize disruptions and ensure efficient site operations.
  • Identify and resolve on-site issues such as design discrepancies, unforeseen conditions, or construction challenges in collaboration with the project management team.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, engineers, and local authorities to ensure timely inspections, approvals, and adherence to contractual obligations.
  • Manage the project close-out process, ensuring all deficiencies are addressed, final inspections are completed, and project handover is successful.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience as a Superintendent overseeing ICI construction projects, including industrial, commercial, and institutional builds.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale ICI projects on time and within budget.
  • In-depth knowledge of ICI construction processes, building codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate on-site teams, subcontractors, and trades.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve site issues and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to different project sites across British Columbia.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Construction Safety Officer (CSO), Gold Seal Certification (GSC), or other relevant industry certifications.
  • Experience with sustainable building practices or LEED-certified projects.
  • Familiarity with the British Columbia construction market, including local codes, regulations, and WorkSafeBC requirements.
  • First Aid certification is an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily based on-site at various locations across British Columbia.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and manage active construction sites.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, including evenings or weekends, as required by project schedules.
