About the Role

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Transmission Engineer to join a leading power engineering and energy consulting firm based in Vancouver, BC, delivering innovative solutions across the electricity sector in Western Canada. This is a 12-month contract role with strong potential for extension, supporting the design and analysis of transmission infrastructure across an active project portfolio.

Reporting to the Engineering Lead, the Transmission Engineer will take ownership of transmission line design, pole and pole replacement projects, and structural analysis — working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver safe, reliable, and code-compliant transmission systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute the design of overhead transmission lines, including new builds and pole replacement programs
• Perform structural analysis and loading calculations for transmission poles and supporting structures
• Develop and manage transmission line models using PLS-CADD, including sag-tension analysis, clearance checks, and plan-profile drawings
• Conduct field assessments and site reviews to support design validation and construction oversight
• Prepare detailed engineering reports, design packages, and technical specifications
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (CSA, CEATI, NERC, utility-specific standards)
• Coordinate with project managers, clients, and construction teams throughout project delivery
• Support permit applications, regulatory submissions, and stakeholder engagements as required
• Identify and resolve design challenges, providing practical and cost-effective engineering solutions

Requirements

Must-Haves

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation — required
• Proficiency in PLS-CADD for transmission line design and analysis — required
• 3-5+ years of experience as a Transmission Engineer, with demonstrated experience in pole design and pole replacement programs
• Strong knowledge of overhead transmission line design principles, structural loading, and applicable codes and standards
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple deliverables in a fast-paced consulting environment
• Strong technical writing skills with the ability to prepare clear engineering reports and documentation
• Valid driver's license and willingness to conduct site visits as required

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with SpidaCalc for pole loading analysis
• Familiarity with BC Hydro, FortisBC, or other Western Canadian utility standards
• Experience with underground transmission or substation design
