Mechanical Engineer – Generation Stations

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for a long-term hybrid opportunity based in Campbell River, BC, supporting one of British Columbia’s largest utility and clean energy organizations. This role is ideal for an experienced engineering professional with strong commissioning, drafting, and mechanical systems experience within heavy industrial or utility environments.

The successful candidate will support generation station mechanical system projects through engineering design support, commissioning activities, troubleshooting, drafting, and field coordination. This position requires strong technical judgment, hands-on problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently within operational project environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the creation and revision of engineering drawings for mechanical systems projects
• Perform drafting and design work using Autodesk and other CADD applications
• Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and testing activities for mechanical systems and hoist equipment
• Prepare site layouts, facility drawings, and equipment installation documentation
• Coordinate engineering documentation and drawing management activities
• Support construction, field review, and commissioning activities
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, drawing standards, and project requirements

Must Haves

• P.Eng designation with Permit to Practice (P2P) through EGBC
• Minimum 8+ years of relevant engineering experience
• Strong experience with commissioning and troubleshooting of instrumentation for wire rope hoists
• Familiarity with commissioning practices for large gates and hoist systems, including precision alignment
• Strong judgment related to testing impacts on operational equipment and systems
• Experience using Autodesk and other CADD applications for mechanical drafting and design
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
• OFA Level 1 certification maintained throughout employment
• Ability to resolve issues onsite with minimal supervision

Nice to Haves

• Structured heavy industry commissioning experience
• Utility or infrastructure industry experience
• Experience with generation station mechanical systems
• Experience with computerized drawing management systems
• Completion of, or progress toward, BC Hydro Electrical System introductory coursework
