Senior Project Engineer – Transmission Lines

Location: Burnaby, BC (Hybrid – Edmonds)
Duration: 12-Month Contract

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Project Engineer – Transmission Lines to support one of British Columbia's largest utility providers. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Professional Engineer who enjoys leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and delivering complex transmission infrastructure projects from concept through construction and commissioning.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership on medium- to high-complexity transmission projects, ensuring engineering solutions are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards while collaborating with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams on transmission infrastructure projects.

• Provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, from conceptual design through construction and commissioning.

• Develop innovative engineering solutions while ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved.

• Review and approve engineering designs, technical documentation, and contractor deliverables.

• Resolve complex engineering and field issues through technical analysis and sound engineering judgment.

• Coordinate engineering activities across multiple disciplines and project stakeholders.

• Monitor project progress and provide technical guidance to support successful project delivery.

• Support engineering standards development and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

• Review engineering work completed by consultants and external delivery partners.

• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.

• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (or eligible for immediate registration).

• Minimum 10 years of progressive engineering experience within the electrical utility industry.

• Strong transmission engineering experience, including transmission line projects.

• Minimum 4 years leading multidisciplinary engineering teams on medium- to large-scale infrastructure projects.

• Strong understanding of project management principles and engineering project delivery.

• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

• Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with substations, protection and control, or telecommunications systems.

• Experience managing Owner's Engineer reviews of consultant engineering work.

• Previous utility or large infrastructure project experience.

• Familiarity with digital engineering tools, CAD systems, and industry design software.

• Site experience supporting transmission lines, substations, hydroelectric facilities, or other major construction projects.

• Knowledge of utility engineering standards and project delivery best practices.

Work Environment

• Hybrid position based in Burnaby (Edmonds), BC.

• Opportunity to support major transmission infrastructure projects from planning through construction.

• Occasional travel to project and construction sites may be required.
